On September 9, Hang Lung Properties Limited of Hong Kong held a major event celebrating the major makeover of Shanghai's Plaza 66 shopping center.
More than 2,000 esteemed guests, including senior executives from international brands, business partners and investors, as well as local and overseas media attended the star-studded celebration.
The transformation of Plaza 66 heralds a new chapter in the mall's illustrious history, and in addition to a focus on optimizing the shopping environment, Plaza 66 is also welcoming a host of dazzling new international brands and new luxury flagship stores to China, consolidating the mall's unique position as the Home to Luxury on the Mainland.
Mr. Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman of Hang Lung Properties, said: "We are delighted to receive so many representatives from international brands, our business partners, and our customers at the celebration tonight. I still recall vividly the time, more than two decades ago, when I came to Shanghai to look for opportunities to expand our revolutionary business model, of building world-class commercial complexes and iconic landmarks for long-term investment on the Mainland. I am impressed with the results that we have achieved so far. We have successfully established a foothold in China not just in Shanghai but also in seven other cities. Today, we witness the transformation of Plaza 66, the brightest star in the firmament of our property portfolio, shining ever more brightly, not fading with the passing of time. I truly believe that with its outstanding attributes, Plaza 66 stands as the true epitome of modern luxury and will redefine the retail landscape in China."
He added, "Mainland China is becoming the single largest market for luxury goods. Plaza 66 is well positioned to tap this burgeoning potential. The external and integral refinement achieved at Plaza 66 will have long lasting positive impact, and we envision Plaza 66 in Shanghai as a truly luxuriant shopping experience for the young, affluent elite, and connoisseurs of refined living."
The celebration was hosted by Mr. Ronnie C. Chan, Chairman, and Mr. Philip Chen, Chief Executive Officer of Hang Lung Properties, and members of the Board of Directors. Mr. Zhou Hai-Ying, Deputy District Governor of the People's Government of Jing'an District, Shanghai gave the honor of his presence, along with iconic names from the world of fashion, entertainment, art, and gastronomy, including Alicia Keys, David LaChapelle, Tommy Ton, Chef Michael White, Chef Janice Wong, and Belgian Master Chocolatier Pierre Marcolini. Fifteen-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, Alicia Keys, held the crowds spellbound as she sang three of her greatest hits, taking the event to its climax.
